Writing lyrics with structure AI can actually follow

Good lyrics sung badly are a formatting problem. These are the rules that fix it.

Tag every section

[Verse 1]
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]
[Verse 2]
[Bridge]
[Chorus]
[Outro]

Square-bracket tags are understood by every major model. Without them you get a shapeless take that never lands on a hook, because the model does not know a hook exists.

Keep lines singable

If a line does not fit comfortably when you say it out loud in four beats, split it.

This is the single most common reason a good lyric sounds rushed. The model will cram whatever you give it into the bar.

Repeat the chorus, exactly

Write the chorus out in full every time it appears. Do not write [Chorus] alone and expect the model to repeat it.

And keep it identical each time. Small variations read as errors to a listener who is waiting for the thing they already heard.

Match syllables across parallel lines

Verse 1 line 1 and verse 2 line 1 should have roughly the same syllable count. Wildly different lengths force the model to change the melody between verses, which breaks the song.

Count them once. It takes a minute and fixes more than any prompt tweak.

Give the bridge somewhere to go

A bridge that reuses the verse melody is not a bridge. Signal the change: fewer words, a different rhyme scheme, or a line that answers the chorus rather than repeating it.

Say who is singing, per section

You can change the voice mid-song:

[Verse 1] (male vocal, low, conversational)
[Chorus] (male vocal + female harmony, belted)

Most people never try this. It is the fastest way to make a track sound arranged rather than generated.

Then hear it

Lyrics on a page tell you very little. Words that read flat can sing well, and words that read beautifully can be unsingable.

Get them into audio early, with a real vocal, before you decide whether they work.
